Agios Nikolaos has been the capital of Lassithi Prefecture since 1904. Standing in the north western extremity of the calm Mirabello Bay, and thanks to its exceptionally mild climate, verdant setting and wind-free harbour, it combines vintage ambience with cosmopolitan atmosphere. Take a walk around the paved alleyways and enjoy a rest at one of its numerous picturesque café’s and restaurants situated around the little lake of ‘Voulismeni’, in the centre of town.

On our way to Lassithi Plateau we visit the pretty traditional village of Neapolis, in a green tranquil setting, which is reflective of how people go about their daily life. We begin to climb on the plateau, lying high up in the mountain Dikte range at a hight of 850 metres.

There we can visit the Diktean Cave, where according to Greek mythology Zeus was born. Significant monasteries such as Kroustallenia or Kera Monastery await your visit, and admire the wonderful view of Malia bay as we descend to the picturesque village of Mohos.
